The Relations Study was an innovative £2.2 million research project to investigate the provision of treatment for parents who use drugs in the UK, in a bid to understand how they interact with health and social care services. I was one of four Research Fellows who worked on the study (January – December 2020), contributing to a critical analysis of UK drug policy and the design of the ethnographic study with families and services. I took particular responsibility for the set up of the Learning Alliance, involving parents who use drugs, families affected by parental drug use, and those involved in delivering, and making decisions about, health and social care services.
The study was Led by Professor Anne Whittaker, of the Nursing, Midwifery and Allied Health Professions Research Unit (NMAHP-RU) and engaged with families and services at two sites (one in Scotland, one in England). Further details can be found here https://relations.stir.ac.uk/
